Problems and Solutions
There are six main problems in a megacity:
Traffic,Environment,Health, Energy, Housing and Crime Rate.
These factors inter-relate to each other. By fixing one of these problems, positive steps will be taken to fixing all problems.
So, how can we solve these problems in such cities?
Traffic - how can this be decreased?
Increasing public transport facilities within these cities would decrease single car use. By increases fares and taxes on roads and cars, residence of the city would be inclined to use public transport more frequently and therefore traffic numbers would decrease, as would pollution.
Environment - how do we improve this?
Air and water pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from industry, agriculture and transport are contributing to the environental problems of megacities. Many countries world wide, are joining together to adopt protocols to reduce these pollutions. With world change, like the Kyoto Protocol for Green House emission, 2005, management of these pollutents will occur.
Health - what can be done to change this?
Pollutions from cars, aeroplanes and factories all are harmful to the health of people living in megacities. Harmful respiratory disease such as asthma, kill many people within the cities as they are unaware of the signs of the disease. People develop allergies, reactions and are poisoned due to infectious water and contaminated foods. By increasing doctors home visits and creating awarness health programs and education sessions including treatments, signs and symptoms of specific diseases, the number of deaths from these simple but frequent diseases would be minimised.
Energy - how can we increase this?
Lack of infrastructure to supply energy to all areas of a megacity contribute to this problem. By producing energy efficient technology (housing, fuel, transport) using alternative energy sources (sun, wind) enery will be produced abundantly and cleanly. This would improve the environment also.
Housing - how can this be improved?
Within mega cities slums are seen frequently. Slums are the thickly populated, run- down squalid part of a city, inhabited by poor people. Slums have very poor housing and minimal clean water and are in the high pollution area. This in turn leads to health problems. For this problem to be addressed infrastructure must be improved and increased by governments of these countries.
Crime Rates - what can be done to decrease this?
Crime rates within megacities are very high due to the stressors of slum life, including violence, drugs, lack of employment and disease. Safety of people within this environment is not garanteed. By introducing and upgrading public surveillance by police and security cameras crime rates would be decrease and life for those living in these areas improved.n

Distribution Pattern of Megacities
The red dotted line on the diagram shown, is the national boarder of Brazil. The least populated or sparsely populated area is to the North. This is represented in a cream colour on the map supplied. The moderately populated areas in Brazil occur in the eastern and southern area represented in yellow. This occurs where there is no major cities. The most populated or densely populated area in Brazil represented by orange, is in the main cities of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Salvador, Redcliff and Belem.
